The Federal Emergency Management Agency solicited public comment Thursday on planned adjustments to the floodplain map along the lower reaches of the Rippowam River, with possible implications for homeowners and businesses who carry the insurance -- or those who might want to lock in a lower rate as a future asset in any sale. FEMA announced in the daily Federal Register it would collect comments for the next 90 days on the updated map, which would apply as of February 2015, with separate floodplain maps covering parts of Trumbull and Darien to take effect next March.
